Vravronas Wetland - Greek Ornithological Society - Virtual Tour

25 May 11

In 2009 the orbitlab team was contracted by the greek Ornithological Society to develop a virtual tour of the protected Vravrona Wetland that is also of archaelogical interest.

The sanctuary of Artemis at Vravrona is an early sacred site on the eastern coast of Attica near the Aegean Sea in a small inlet. The inlet has silted up since ancient times, pushing the current shoreline farther from the site.

The "Protection and Promotion of the Vravrona Wetland" project is implemented by the Hellenic Ornithological Society in cooperation with the Athens International Airport and the Municipality of Markopoulo. It includes actions that are expected to help restore the wetland ecosystem, recover the populations of plants and animals of the wetland and the surrounding area, inform and aware locals and visitors, and promote the area in a manner compatible to the conservation of the local natural and cultural heritage.

In this context a virtual tour of the protected area of Vravrona would give the opportunity to the public to have a look at the natural landscape, the archaeological site, and thus to raise awareness or to promote visitors to the place. We developed an online virtual tour with 15 spherical panoramas, an interactive map and informative texts about the birds, the flora and the ancient sanctuarys, as well as a cdrom for offline use.
